# RDP Connection

To connect to a server running Windows OS family, the RDP protocol is used. Usually on Windows by default an RDP client is already installed. You can find it in the Start menu at Accessories - Windows > Remote Desktop Connection. For other OS, the official cross-platform Microsoft Windows App (formerly Microsoft Remote Desktop) is available, which can also be used on Windows.

In Windows App, you'll need to add a host first. In the classic app, the connection form opens immediately. In the Computer or Hostname field, you need to enter the server's IP address. If you changed the RDP port, then after the IP through a colon specify the port.

By expanding all parameters (the Show Options button in the classic app), you can specify the username in advance. In addition the following settings may also be useful:

Path Description
Display > Resolution This parameter is responsible for the fixed window size for managing the server desktop.
Local Resources > Local devices and resources > More... Here you can specify, for example, which drives, printers, etc. from your computer need to be connected to the server during management. So, for example, you can transfer files between the server and your PC without additional programs and protocols.
General > Connection settings The Save button allows you to create a file with settings, and later connect to the server simply by double-clicking on the config.
